The Boy is a 50 Ton hydraulic injection molder (manufactured in Germany). It is 20 years old and was acquired by PEC from Cornell University, Ithaca NY. It has its original control system but is also equipped with an up-to-date Moog control system. Because of space limitations in the Mechanical Engineering Building on campus, it is temporarily located at the Forest Products Laboratory, a partner in the PFI program. Presently the machine is being used by Prof. Lih-Sheng (Tom) Turng and one of his post-doc/grad students, Zhong-Bao Chen, who is studying the advantages of a feed-back control system that monitors and controls mold-separation during injection molding.
