The Crazylegs Classic will take place on Saturday April 27th, the day after the 13th International Polymer Colloquium. The Polymer Engineering Center graduate students and faculty participate in this event every year. You are cordially invited to either walk (2 miles) or run (5 miles). Please join us. 13th Annual International Polymer Colloquium

The 13th edition of the International Polymer Colloquium will take place in Madison on Friday April 26th after the ANTEC Conference 2013. During this event, polymer professionals from Asia, Europe, South America, and the United States will come together to discuss topics regarding advancements in polymer technology. There will be keynote sessions, technical forums, and poster exhibitions, all of which will provide you with the latest technical developments in the subject. Germany's Excellence Initiative - the RWTH example

The Excellence Initiative aims to promote top-level research and to improve the quality of German universities and research institutions in general, thus making Germany a more attractive research location, making it more internationally competitive and focusing attention on the outstanding achievements of Germany universities and the German scientific community. In June 2012, the Joint Commission of the DFG and the German Council of Science and Humanities decided which projects will be funded in the second phase of the Excellence Initiative. In total, these projects will receive €2.4 billion worth of funding to enhance research and learning. During this Seminar, Professor Ernst Schmachtenberg, will discuss the Excellence Initiative and its impact on German universities.

Ernst M. Schmachtenberg is a Professor of Polymer Engineering and Rector of the Technical University of Aachen (RWTH-Aachen). Professor Schmachtenberg is also the President of the TU-9, the organization of the 9 largest technical universities in Germany. He received his bachelors in Mechanical Engineering specializing in plastics engineering at the RWTH Aachen University and his PhD at the Institute of Plastics Processing (IKV) on materials science of plastics.
