GROWTH IN E-BUSINESS CONSORTIUM
Twenty Wisconsin companies joined the UW E-Business Consortium in 2003, increasing membership in this university-industry partnership to nearly 50 companies. Among the newest member companies are American Girl, Appleton Papers, J J Keller, Kraft Foods, Schneider National, and Menasha Corp. E-BUSINESS JOURNEY COMPLETES FIRST YEAR
The E-Business Journey for Wisconsin Manufacturers completed its first year helping small-to-medium size manufacturers develop strategies and implementation plans to increase revenue, reduce costs and lead time, and strengthen relationships through e-business. The Journey is an alliance between the Wisconsin Manufacturing Extension Partnership the UW E-Business Consortium. This business-to-business collaboration between original equipment manufacturers and suppliers creates strong supply chains that benefit the development of Wisconsin’s manufacturing sector. "The E-Business Journey helped us more clearly align our business strategies with our IS one-to-three year plans. It helped draw the links between the two and define our steps in 2004 and 2005. This is a good process for mid-sized manufacturers in Wisconsin," said Keith Trafton, Controller, Helgesen Industries. The next Journey begins late February.
The January Wisconsin Chamber of Commerce Newsletter featured an article on university-industry projects, "University of Wisconsin- Madison E-Business Institute Provides Support for Wisconsin’s Industry Clusters." One initiative of the UWEBI is a partnership for innovation in Wisconsin’s plastics industry cluster. The goal of this initiative is to foster collaborative innovation networks in the highly fragmented plastics industry. The plastics industry cluster project is a collaboration between UWEBI, the UW Polymer Engineering Center in partnership with the State of Wisconsin and other UW campuses, Wisconsin technical colleges, and corporations in the state's plastics manufacturing cluster will lead this project. INSTITUTE HELPS INDUSTRIES ENHANCE BUSINESS STRATEGIES
UW-Madison has launched the Wisconsin E-Business Institute, a campus-wide initiative
to help Wisconsin industries develop a better understanding of how
Internet-enabled technologies and practices can increase a company's
competitive edge in fierce global markets. The institute will
complement the University of Wisconsin E-Business Consortium
(formerly named the Consortium for Global E-Commerce) collaborative
learning activities by conducting multidisciplinary research and
leading outreach efforts that enhance e-business practices among the
state's core industries, including manufacturing, distribution,
healthcare and finance. For more information on institute projects, see
