The Polymer Engineering Center has over 5000 square feet of laboratory and pilot plant scale plastic processing equipment. We use this facility for educating undergraduate students, conducting world-class research and supporting numerous industry collaborations.

FFF Filament Extrusion Line
Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) is a key part of the suite of additive manufacturing technologies. Typically, FFF research is entirely dependent on commercially available filaments. The Polymer Engineering Center has its own filament extrusion line to produce custom and high-quality filament using numerous engineering resins and composite materials. The downstream equipment includes a vacuum tank to improve the circularity of the filament and for consistent filament diameter. The laser gauge and precision puller fine-tune the take-off speed to keep the filament diameter within ±0.02 mm.
